Paykko is a savings platform first imagined in 2017 as a student project, then relaunched by Gara in 2025 as Africa’s financial infrastructure finally became ready for it.

The idea was simple: millions of Africans already save outside the traditional banking system, alone, through tontines, with cash, mobile money, and trusted communities. But until recently, the market lacked the payment rails, regulation, and digital adoption needed to turn these habits into a scalable product.

Today, Paykko helps users save alone or in groups through a secure mobile-first platform. It digitizes personal savings and tontines, automates contributions, creates financial history, and opens the door to future access to credit, insurance, and financial products.
